LOBBY & FEATURE DESIGN

The Lobby for any game is critically important, and Duel Poker was no exception. We wanted to make sure that the players understood as much as possible at-a-glance; with very clear button placement in an easy-to-access layout. This also included a dynamic list of players at the top of the screen that the player can challenge - or a list of players in the bottom who can be joined for a tournament. Both of these lists updated in real time to provide instant play with a single tap.

TOURNAMENT MATCHMAKING

While in tournament mode, the players will play 4 rounds of 1v1 Poker for a few minutes. Once the timer is up, the players rotate and play another opponent. This continues until one player is left standing and is crowned the winner. My responsibilities largely included defining the math models and writing simulators in LUA to make sure that the match-making was fair and wouldn't result in steamrolling.

CORE POKER GAMEPLAY

At it's core, Duel Poker is a heads-up Texas Hold'em game. Unlike all the competitors on the market at the time, we had the screen real-estate to have much bigger buttons and a less cluttered screen. Additionally by making the game one-versus-one players we able to create a deeper sense of rivalry against a single opponent.
